Obama’s Food Marketing Crackdown.

Obama’s Food Police!

Obama know that these aren't healthy

This type of food amy officially seen as unhealthy.

Yesterday I was told about an article on HumanEvents.com that at first had me a little scared, then relieved and happy, then a little scared again.

The article “Obama’s Food Police in Staggering Crackdown on Market to Kids” by Audrey Hudson is on the same subject that I wrote about in “Limits for food advertising for children”. Children are going to want what they see to be fun, what other children are having and what their parents will allow them to have.

Advertising firms and large food corporations know how to make this happen. Just look at any box of children’s breakfast cereal, candy packages and soda pop commercials.

These are the same tactics that were used in tobacco advertising years ago. They create an image that the person want to be part of. And if that doesn’t work the “social proof” (peer pressure) does. Now we know different about what tobacco really does to you. Maybe one day the same will happen with refined sugar, high carbohydrate foods and food additives.

The problems with the advertising tactics with junk food toward children is that most parents don’t know that these foods are causing major health problems with their children. Parents are mislead by terms like “Fortified, Enriched, All Natural, Contains nutrients, etc…”. These are all food veneers.

These foods are not only making children fat, they are causing “adult onset diabetes” at younger and younger ages, blood pressure problems, allergies. immune system problems, ADD, mood swings, depression, anxiety, digestive problems, etc… And just wait until the future when these children grow up. They will be having an increase on cancer, autoimmune diseases, heart conditions, hormonal disfunction and much more.

Obama’s Plan

The basics of the plan states it want’s to meet two basic goals of foods that are marketed to children,

“Such foods should be formulated to … make a meaningful contribution to a healthful diet and minimize the content of nutrients that could have a negative impact on health and weight.”

At first this scared me because we know what the USDA diet plan is like. It is not aligned with what is healthy for us to eat in an anthropological point of view. That is what we have been eating for hundreds of thousands of years and what your and your children’s body’s are designed to eat.

But then I read how they want the foods to be formulated and I was surprised.  These are the foods that are being targeted:

“…foods that are low in calories, fat, and some considered healthy foods, are also targets, including hot breakfast cereals such as oatmeal, pretzels, popcorn, nuts, yogurt, wheat bread, bagels, diet drinks, fruit juice, tea, bottled water, milk and sherbet.”

Now if you have seen the eating right diet, you know that this can be a good thing. This includes getting more grains, carbs, sugar, artificial sweeteners, and dairy products out of the children’s diets. And hopefully more whole food proteins and vegetables into their diet.

But then I was realizing that this is a big loss of freedom for advertising and business. To me this is scary because who know what other freedoms can be lost. What will lobbyists push for in this new paradigm? To get big food business going again. What will those who have something good to offer not be allowed to advertise or say about their products?

What do you think? Please let us know…

Look at research carefully

Research may be misleading

There is a great post by Megan Choy on Alternative Medicine

Alt Med Views

Taking a closer look into alternative medicine research

Views about how research can be misleading.

When I heard about a research project that claimed “Fat rich foods make you fat” that was posted on sciencedaily.com, I was taken back because it goes against what we are taught about basic physiology. Fat doesn’t make you fat, carbs and sugars stimulate this.

Megan Choy took a closer look at the study that was done and posted in the article, “Insulin Action in the Brain Can Lead to Obesity: How Insulin in Hypothalamus Controls Body’s Energy Balance” ScienceDaily (June 6, 2011).

Here is her post, “Do fatty foods make you fat?” on Alternative Medicine Views. She contacted the researchers and got all of the details of the study. This is what she found out.

  • The research claimed that mice that were fed a high fat diet with low carbohydrates gained more weight and mice that were fed a low fat diet with more carbohydrates didn’t gain weight.
  • The “low fat” diet that the mice were being fed contained contained
    • 19% protein,
    • 6% fat
    • 50% carbohydrate
  • The “high fat” diet that the mice were fed
    • 21% protein
    • 35% fat
    • 29% carbohydrate.

As Megan Choy looked into the dietary info of what the mice were fed there was some obvious problems.

  • In the “low fat” food the 50% carbohydrate consisted of 45% complex carbs and 5% simple carbs.
  • In the “high-fat” food the 29% carbohydrate consisted of 7% complex carbs and 22% simple carbs.

Simple carbs… that is sugar!

Did you get that?

  • In the “high fat” food the carbohydrates consisted of mostly sugar (which would cause the mice to quickly put on fat).
  • In the “low fat” food the carbohydrates were mostly complex (which will not cause the mice to put on as much fat).

The high fat food had more than four times the sugar content of the low fat food. Sugar causes insulin release and fat storage. Not fat.

Just because the diet is high or low fat doesn’t make nearly as much as a difference as to the sugar content of the food. You can see how misleading this is.

So to avoid fat mice or to improve you own health, eat healthy proteins, fats and some fruit may be ok if you are not trying to create a dramatic change in your health at this time. If you are trying to lose weight fast or turn around a health condition quickly, cut out the fruit.

And be wary of research studies that seem to go against basic knowledge.

Water vs Sports drinks

How to you hydrate?

When I was a “badass” living in New York City, I got into amateur motocross racing. Of course I though that “gatorade” was the best thing for me to drink. They even brought a gatorade tanker truck to the race tracks and let you fill up for free. Talk about “moving the free line”, a very successful marketing tactic.

Giant Stadium amateur super cross

Me being a "badass"... OUCH!

I don’t know if you realize this but sports drinks, like gatorade, and seemingly healthy fruit drinks contain sugar.

So, those types of athletic sport drinks can be fine is you are a serious athlete. But for the average person who gets some average or not much activity during the week this is not the greatest thing for your health.

Sports drinks are not for the weekend warriors

If you are the average person who works out in the gym a few days a week, or who doesn’t work out much and is a weekend warrior, the sugar in sports drinks is probably not benefiting you. Not to mention those energy gels and similar things that you can find in your local outdoor store or nutrition shop.

If you are not regularly active but drink an energy drink or pomegranete juice as you are doing yard work on the weekend, that sugar is going to you fat cells. Not only making you fat but also causing fatty liver (yes, sugar and inactivity can do that), causing blood sugar, hormonal (for men and women) and digestive problems to say the least.

Another thing to mention is that ingesting refined sugar will cause your nervous system to function in a “sympathetic dominance” which means that you will be burning sugar for energy instead of fat for energy. Burning sugar gives you short term sprint energy and burning fat gives you long term endurance energy.

Here is the rundown on some sports drinks from a Details Magazine article by Heather Hurlock:

  • Smartwater: 0 grams of sugar
  • Nuerosport: 12 grams of sugar
  • O.N.E. Coconut Water: 19 grams of sugar
  • AlO Awaken: 30 grams of sugar
  • Vitamin Water XXX: 32.5 grams of sugar
  • POM Wonderful: 80 grams of sugar

Look at the top of the above list. You can hydrate just fine with Smartwater. It has no sugar. It’s steam distilled water and has electrolytes in it. There is no need for surgar, artificial sweeteners (which are worse than sugar) or artificial coloring.

Another great options is to drink regular water! Yes, your water doesn’t have to be smart, just wet and have no sugar or chemicals in it.

If you are a professional or serious athlete, someone who works out at a very high level on a regular basis for at least a few years, sports drinks can be ok for your. Just watch out for the artificial substitutes and synthetic vitamins that may be in there.

What types of water are good?

Water and sports drinks

The water isle. So many choices!

A good quality filtered water will do good. I prefer steam distilled water. I have the 5 1/2 gallon bottles delivered to my office and home. I keep a few 1 and 1 1/2 liter bottles around to fill up from home to take on trips or workouts.

I just recommend to stay away from “reverse osmosis” filtered water or any water that sounds like a scientist or physicist toyed around with it. These are things like alkaline water, penta water, ionized water, etc…

From my work with muscle testing or applied kinesiology, I have found that steam distilled or a good quality filtered water reacts well with people. Some of these manipulated waters do not test so well.

What do you think? Do you use sports drinks or some kind of specialized waters and are curious about why I am telling you not to use them? Let me know… Comment below now!

Dairy intolerance symptoms

Go Non Dairy

Over the years of working with patients in a holistic health sense, I have seen many miracles.

I never really “heal” anyone. What happens is I help the patient heal themselves. I coach them to regain their own heath. I may push a few “buttons” and use muscle testing to figure out the root cause of their health issue. But ultimately I am guiding them toward getting through the blocks that they have created. The blocks between where they are now and their health.

If you have a health issue, you are ultimately responsible for it. What you have done in the past got you there and you need to take control of you life to change it. Only you can make the choices to do it.

One thing that is very important to coach people on is the food that they are putting into their bodies.

Dairy is a big obstacle to health

Do you drink milk, lattes, use milk in your tea? Do you eat cheese, yogurt, ice cream, dairy based foods, soups, sauces? I have seen some amazing things happen when people remove dairy from their diet.

I have seen dairy be a major contributor to low back pain.

low back pain

Dairy intolerance can cause low back pain

Here is one extreme example. I had an active patient in her late 20’s come into my office. She was referred by one of my students. She used to teach yoga but had to stop because of really bed low back pain. She had something called an “anterolisthesis” This is where there is an injury to the low back where the spine actually starts sliding off of the pelvis.

I in my practice I work with the muscles of the body and get them to work properly again when you walk, bend, chew and what ever else you do with your body. The muscles are related to different organs and body functions. I know that some of the low back muscles are weakened by dairy.

I worked on the patient and told her to do the eating right diet. When she left that day I was satisfied that the muscles related to her back pain were working properly.

She came back for a few visits and her back was not any better. Every time I reset the low back muscles. Finally I asked if she was “eating right”. She said yes, and was very proud of the fact that she is now using sheep’s milk instead of cows milk.

I told her she has to avoid ALL milk to get her back well. This included cow, goat, sheep and what ever else she could think of.

The very next visit her low back pain was entirely cleared up. Both her and I were VERY happy.

There are milk alternatives.

Some milk alternatives are good and some are not.

  • Soy milk is the most popular. But I recommend to stay away from soy. It causes digestive, hormonal and toxicity problems. I would actually say to drink a good organic, raw milk over soy.
  • Almond or nut milks are better than dairy but contain phytic acids which block the absorption of minerals like calcium, zinc, iron, magnesium, etc…
  • Rice milk is better than dairy, soy and nut milks (not as many “anti-nutrients”) but it contains a high amount of sugars.
  • Hemp milk is new on the market and so far it seems to be good. It has a good amount of omega 3 fats and good amount of protein. Just try to get it unsweetened.

Above are some of your options. Some people need some dairy substitute in their life because of habit. Personally I don’t. I drink my americano (coffee) black. I don’t eat breakfast cereals, I don’t need to drink a glass full of some sort of white substance with my meal. I don’t need my foods smothered in cheese.

If you think about it, Humans are the only animals that drink milk after they grow up. I feel that the only ones that should drink milk should be infants.

There are many better sources to get you calcium from after a child is weened from breast milk. Dark green leafy vegetables, meats, fish, oranges, etc…

Do you know that the calcium that you get from dairy products may actually cause bones to be dense but brittle?

Let me know what you think… comment below.

Soy Dangers

Soy, the un-health food.

Over the years I have seen how large corporations, lobbyists and public

Soy bad for health

Soy doesn't do the body good

relation firms can make the general population believe what they want. The power of influence is enormous! And people believe what they are told by authority figures.

A prime example if this is Soy. The public has been brainwashed to believe that soy is a superfood. That it is a good source of protein, has medicinal properties and that everyone should eat, drink, take it in supplement form, and even make vegan turkeys out of it.

Soy really isn’t a healthy food to eat on a regular basis.

You have been mislead! First of all, soy is not easily digestible by the human body.

  • The protein in soy can not be easily broken down easily by the human stomach. So that means if you eat soy, you can’t absorb the proteins and it passes right through you.
  • There are chemicals in soy that are “trypsin inhibitors” that interfere with protein digestion, cause pancreatic disorders and may stunt growth in children.
  • Soy contains a high amount of phytic acid which blocks absorption of important mineral in our body (iron, zinc, calcium, magnesium, etc…) and actually destroys the “villi” of you intestines which absorb your nutrients. This means that even though you may be eating healthy vitamin and mineral rich foods, you won’t be able to absorb any of that goodness into your body.
  • The Vitamin B12 analogs that are found in soy are not absorbed by the body and actually cause your body to have a B12 deficiency.
  • Soy increases your body’s need for Vitamin D. You know Vitamin D right? They now say that if you don’t have enough Vitamin D you may get cancer easier.

This is some pretty bad stuff! But that is not all. Soy also causes a lot of hormonal and reproductive system problems.

  • Soy has a high amount of phytoestrogens. These are chemicals that are made from plants that are like the human hormone estrogen.
  • High amounts of estrogen your body will block the thyroid gland from working properly. The thyroid governs your metabolism. If your metabolism slows down you start gaining weight, have less energy, lose hair, become depressed, have cold hands and feet, lower immune system, cause a higher rate of miscarriage in pregnancy and more (these symptoms show up on women much more then men).
  • High amounts of Estrogen in men causes lower levels of testosterone, the male sex hormone. This will decrease sex drive, cause gynecomastia (man boobs), weight gain, muscle loss, sterility, depression and more.
  • Long term increase in estrogen has been shown to increase the risk of ovarian and breast cancer.

On top of all of this there are factors with the way that soy is processed. Most soy products are highly refined and processed and this makes things even worse. The processing of soy protein causes the formation of toxic and highly carcinogenic “nitrosamines“. The really not so funny fact is that the soy industry was recently lobbying the FDA to proclaim that soy products were good for cancer prevention. Mean while soy products seem to cause cancer.

Another by product is soy processing is MSG, a powerful neurotoxin that you may of heard of. There is also a high amount of aluminum which is toxic to the nervous system and kidneys.

On top of all of this. I don’t think soy even tastes good! It’s amazing what good public relations can do. The stuff will kill you and doesn’t taste good but everyone wants it.

People think that soy is healthy because the asian diet seems healthy. Soy in the asian diet is another misconception. In the early 1900’s only about 1.5% of the asian diet was soy. They didn’t eat a lot of tofu, soy milk, or use it as infant formula and they sure didn’t put processed soy protein isolate in everything. They only used it as a garnish.

A high quality soy sauce or well fermented “miso” is ok because the fermentation process takes out the phytic acid and is a cleaner way of processing soy vs the industrialized methods.

In general remember to stick to vegetables, proteins and fruit. Avoid processed foods with “Soy Protein isolates” or anything that may resemble these words.

Soy sauce or miso can be OK, just stay away form tofu, soy milk and raw soybeans in general. If you want to see how to eat right in detail, take a look at the eating right page or put you email in on this page to watch me describe how to eat right on a free video.

Weight gain, aging and cancer… Sugar

Sugar and weight gain, aging and cancer

Weight gain, aging and cancer... all from sugar.

Sugar is causing premature aging, weight gain and cancer!

I don’t care how healthy you are. You have eaten refined sugar (or worse) in some form or another. Don’t lie to me… I know you have!

Sugar is such a problem in our society that it should have restrictions just like, if not stricter, than alcohol. This stuff can be even more addictive than heavy duty street drugs, seriously!

The sweetness that we taste with sugar signals to our brain that what we are eating is packed with dense nutrients (if it was really a whole food that we were tasting). Sweet natural foods (fruits) naturally bloom at a time of year where we would naturally want to have extra energy or put on weight for the long winter that would be coming ahead.

Today we are all mixed up because we can eat many different fruits that are not in season in our area because we have food shipped in from all over the world. So we are throwing these natural cycles of nature off and paying the price for it with our health.

I will tell you that fresh, organic unprocessed fruit that is in the form that is was grown in, from nature (not fruit juice, dried or crystalized), is the healthiest forms of sugar that we can eat. The problem is that we are usually eating it out of season. This can imbalance our body and cause weight gain, blood sugar disturbances, digestive problems and more.

But like I said, whole natural fruit is the healthiest for us! Usually when someone is eating something that is sweet and they are eating the standard American diet (S.A.D.) it is usually not fruit.

Large multinational corporations have found out that sugar and sweeteners are one of the cheapest things to get the general population addicted to. You know what this means, right? Long term customers that usually need more and more of the product from the dealer with total disregard for the effects that it has on their health.

The average American eats over 150 pounds of sugar… a year! Americans eat 33% of the worlds production of refined sugar!

Why is refined sugar so bad?

When we eat foods with sugar we are eating empty calories. That means that there are no real nutrients in the food. Things like vitamins, minerals and fiber are not there. These are actually what makes fruit healthier than refined sugar, just as long as you are eating the whole natural fruit. These nutrients help us to balance and utilize the sugar that is in the fruit.

With refined sugar foods, we are not getting these benefits. Actually, these foods that are made with refined sugar are usually filled with substances that are not good for us. Grains, food colorings, bad fats. Or if they are trying to put on a veneer of health food, they will “Enrich” or “Fortify” the food with artificial vitamins that usually are not too good for you either.

In the post, the 76 dangers of sugar to your health, Dr. Mercola reviews many, many reasons of why to avoid sugar in your diet. From the things that are mentioned here you would think that the FDA would ban this addictive, disease causing substance. Refined sugar is one of the biggest reasons that we are having a health care crisis in the United States. We’re talking about:

  • Adult onset diabetes
  • Obesity
  • Cancer (cancer cells grow from sugar)
  • Heart disease
  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Liver problems
  • Kidney problems
  • Immune system problems
  • Inflammation and Pain…

And I am only talking about refined sugar here. I will get into the artificial Sweeteners in another post. Just to let you know how bad they are. If a person is just not going to listen to me about the dangers of artificial Sweeteners, I tell them to eat refined sugar because it is better for them (I hope you just read everything above to realize how bad the artificial ones can be).

I have seen miracles happen with patients of mine who started eating right and removed the refined sugars from their diet. That means not having:

  • Cookies
  • Cake
  • Pie
  • Candy
  • Soda/pop
  • Ice cream
  • Sweetened coffee drinks/tea
  • etc…

I challenge you to do this for two weeks and then start eating sugar again. See how you feel. You will literally feel like you have a hang over or the flu coming on. Seriously, try this and come back and comment below about how good you felt and how much fat you lost around your waist while you cut out all refined sugar for two weeks. And then about how you felt when you ate sugary products again. You will be amazed!

If you have done this already please help me help the others out there who are reading this and comment below right now about what you have experienced.

How to lose 10 pounds

How to get in shape for summer…FAST!

Yes, Memorial day just hit again. The sun will be out more. It will be warm

Lose 10 pounds

Lose 10 pounds

and you are going to want to feel more secure with the way you body looks and feels.

It’s going to be swimming pool time, beach time, wedding time. It’s going to be that time of year where you want to wear cooler, sexier clothing and look good.

It’s also that time of year, if you’re single, that you really start looking for someone special. Pretty people are going to be out more and more as the heat gets turned up.

I’ve seen many people lose weight fast and naturally. I’ve regularly seen people who are on not bad shape lose 10 pounds in two weeks! Yes, this is possible!

This is what you need to do. It’s easy and I’m going to show you how for FREE!

  1. Clean up your diet. Eat the types of foods that your body is deigned to eat. I call this eating right. Go and look at the eating right diet and see where you need to change what you are already doing. The little details can be very important. Seriously! I’ve seen a close friend of mine who was religiosity doing the “Atkin’s Diet” but still couldn’t drop almost 20 pounds, even though they were working out 4 days a week. They gave up working out but also took cheese out of their diet and lost the 20 pounds within a month and a half! 20 pounds off from a small detail like not eating cheese!
  2. Drink water. Not Diet Soda, not kombucha, no zero calorie sweetened vitamin water or workout drinks. Drink water, preferably steam distilled or from a high quality water filter (no reverse osmosis). Drink about 1 quart per 50 pounds of body weight daily.
  3. Eat smaller meals but eat more often. Don’t eat so much food in a sitting that you are stuffed. Eat enough food so that you are comfortably satisfied but can eat more.
  4. Keep active. I recommend for people that don’t exercise to just walk at least 20 minutes a day at least 3 times a week. Walk briskly. Do it in the morning, on a lunch break or in the evening.
  5. Forgive yourself and your body for not being what you want it to be. I’m serious! I work with people’s emotions a lot in my practice and and self resentment can cause exactly what you are trying to correct. Forgive yourself and be nice to your self. And be happy that you are now changing your lifestyle to get what you want.

This is a healthy, natural way to change the way your body looks feels and behaves. You may also see changes in health problems that you have, as well as have more energy, less mood swings, better sleep and clearer thinking.

Don’t weigh yourself to look for improvement. If you start gaining muscle while you are losing fat you may not see a weight loss immediately. Muscle weighs more than fat. But you will be looking and feeling better.

A good indicator of fat loss in your waist line. Notice that your pants are getting bigger. Measure you waist in the morning after you go to the bathroom. As you eat right, notice your pants getting loser and the measurements getting smaller. I’ve seen it over and over again on myself and others. Now it’s your turn.

Whole Foods says it’s not affiliated with Monsanto

Monsanto and GMO foods still bad news.

In the previous post I talked about an article on politicolnews.com that had a headline of, “Monsanto buys out Whole Foods – Politicol News” and it said, “Whole Foods -it is now a subsidiary of Monsanto the chemical GMO food supplier.”

I was infuriated by this because i have used Whole Foods Markets for years and have sent my patients there. I searched for more information on this take over but could not find more.

I emailed Whole Foods Market about this today with a link to the article and received a response this afternoon. This was the first line of their response, “Thank you for taking the time to write to Whole Foods Market. We do not have any affiliation with that company.”

I am skeptical of the language and literally of the exact words that were used in the Politiconews.com article but the fact is that we still have to deal with GMO foods.

Updated on June 17, 2011

I received this link from a reader the tells the Whole Foods and Monsanto story very well.

Monsanto buys out Whole Foods Market

Whole Foods Market may not be supplying Healthy Foods anymore.

Update: July 6, 2011

Here is another post that I wrote. It is based on a link that I received from a reader. Click here to read Whole Foods and monsanto misinformation

Update: May 27th, 5:49pm pst

I received an email back from Whole Foods Market that said in the first line, “Thank you for taking the time to write to Whole Foods Market. We do not have any affiliation with that company.”

Here is my update for this post.

Update: May 27th, 3:49 pm pst

I’ve been looking on the net for more info on what I posted below. I really hope it isn’t true. I know that they have caved into Monsanto about GMO foods but looking for more info on this new topic. I have emailed Whole Foods to inquire. I will update this as soon as I find out more.

In a Article from Political News Online, from the Organic Consumer

genitically modified foods
No GMO Foods

Association, I have just found out that Whole Foods Market has been bought our by the Monsanto Company.

I am ANGRY! I have been a loyal customer of The Whole Foods Market for years.

Monsanto is the company that brought us Bovine Growth Hormone (BGH or BST) which you may of heard about. This chemical caused breast infections in the cows that was administered to (just think about drinking mink from infected cow breasts) and may cause cancer in humans… Great!.

Monsanto also is the leader in genetically modifying foods (GMO foods). These foods are genetically designed so that they produce pesticides all by themselves, automatically. Just imagine plants that actually produce the pesticide “Roundup” while they are growing. And then we are supposed to eat these plants? I don’t know about you, but I see a HUGE problem here.

Dr. Joseph Mercola posted a great article about genetically modified foods. Here are somethings that they cause:

  • Lung damage in mice
  • Cancer in rats
  • Kidney, liver, heart and spleen problems in rodents
  • Immune system diseases in rodents
  • Five-fold increasein mortality, lower birth weights, and the inability to reproduce in rats
  • Sperm damage in mice
  • Alter DNA functioning in mice
  • Sterility and fertility problems in pigs, cows and buffalo

Is this not enough of a reason that they should not be seen as safe for the general public? …Duh!

This is a criminal act! Purposely endangering peoples health and lives.

Here is a link to Get Fit Now Radio where Eleni K and I talked about GMO foods. http://getfitportland.wordpress.com/2011/01/25/jan-25th-gmos/ Listen to this and pass it on.

Again, I am pissed about this! Monsanto lobbied the US government to ok GMO foods as safe. They are mostly banned in the EU and the US threatened sanctions against Europe if they didn’t allow GMO foods to be imported and grown there. You can see how a large multinational corporation like monsanto can control things with lobbying. I can’t believe that the Obama’s could allow this.

Do me a favor. Help spread the word about this. About what whole foods is turning into. It’s free to do it on the internet…Thank God!

Right now, get this page out to those that you care about and that you love. Post it on your FaceBook page, on your Twitter account or what ever you have. Email it. People need to know what is happening in the name of big business profit.

Eating on the dark side

Eating on the dark side? Use Food-tuition.

What! You are cheating on your diet? Diet infidelity happens. I understand, I

Refined Sugar and Carbs

Eating on the dark side

am human also.

I want to help guide you when you go to the dark side and eat foods that are more stressful to our body. Which foods are these? Look at the eating right diet and you will see.

If you are in tune with your body you will feel your limits on many things. This is intuition. Everyone has some. The more you recognize it the more you can use it.

Some people are not in touch with their body and may just eat and eat things that are not healthy for them. When you do the eating right diet for even a few weeks, you will become in tune with what is good for your body and what is not good for your body.

The healthier you eat, the more you will not feel good when you eat foods that are not healthy.  You will eventually develop that intuition that I am talking about. We have been eating bad food for so long that we don’t feel that ill effects that they have on our body and more. It’s not your fault, you have become numb to it. But there is a solution. Start eating right for just a few weeks or a month and you will start to feel how some foods cause you to not feel well.

Look, if you are like me you were fed sugars, starches and chemicals at a young age. Look at the ingredients in baby foods. This is ridiculous! I’m sure that you were rewarded as a child with sweets, ice cream, candy, etc… And then when you were “bad” you were told that you couldn’t have these addictive, evil foods.

You may have had some reactions to these foods as a child and  your parents didn’t know what to make of it. Allergic reactions, fatigue, mood swings, angry outbursts. Just watch any young child that is fed sugar and give it 10-20 minutes. You will see a change if they are in tune with their body.

But what if someone feels ok when they eat these foods?

With prolonged exposure to what is not good for us we deaden our senses and become numb to it.  It’s similar to putting a frog in a pot of room temperature water and slowly turning up the heat. It doesn’t realize that it’s cooking to death. But when you put a frog in a pot of boiling water it will jump out because it can feel the heat.

We have been slowly having the heat turned up on us for our whole lives. If you reset your body by being vigilant and eating right for a few weeks to a month you will feel the difference. You will also lose fat and feel better.

Then you have your guide, your barometer, your intuition.

I do eat right most of the time. But I am human and I sometimes go to the dark side. This is what I do when I go there:

  • When you are eating something that that is not healthy for you, listen to your body
  • Your mouth may say that it tastes REALLY good, but there is a point where your body (gut, heart, etc…) says, “that is enough”
  • At this point… STOP! Stop eating what you are stuffing in your face
  • Be happy that you felt you intuition and that you will still feel good later or in the morning

I use this when I do something like eat pizza ( I haven’t had any in over a month), sweets, carbs or even foods that are in the eating right category. I may start eating the slice of pizza and 2/3 of the way through I may get a feeling of “that’s enough!” and I know to stop here.

Don’t be mislead by cravings

Some people think that the cravings that they have are the same as their intuition. They are very different! Would your intuition really be telling you to eat that one pound slice of double chocolate cake? I don’t think so. “But it’s organic double chocolate cake”. I don’t care. It still has some form of sugar and carbs… and Chocolate is an intestinal irritant. Just realize there are differences between food cravings and your intuition.

Here are some other tips for embracing your shadow side of eating:

  • Eat healthy food before and after you eat something that is not good for you, don’t go on a “binge”
  • Drink water after your food has digested, about an hour
  • If you are not feeling good after, take a walk. Hippocrates, the greek philosopher and father of medicine said that walking is man’s best medicine (woman’s too!)
  • Eat evil foods that are made with the most natural ingredients possible. Stay away from artificial sweeteners. I actually think regular sugar is better for you than most artificial sweeteners. (But whole cane sugar would be even better)
  • Don’t eat bad foods when you are stressed or not feeling well. When you feel good and healthy, you body can handle these things better. Carbs and sugar deplete your immune system

So there it is. It happens. We do eat things that are not good for us, just listen to your body and know when to stop.

Eat good foods before and after, don’t binge on bad food. Stay active, exercise helps the digestion, hormones and blood sugar to work better. And make sure that your are not coming down with a cold, stressed out or emotionally off kilter what your are not eating good things. And don’t let me catch you!

Then get back to eating right, soon.
