Do you know that the USDA’s food pyramid was designed by farming lobbyists? Yes, the way that we have been taught to eat since we were in elementary school is based on marketing by big food companies. Not based on what we are supposed to be eating that keeps us healthy. Since the food pyramid has been “engrained” into our society we have been seeing major problems with obesity, diabetes and more. Don’t eat grains, starches and sugars. Eat proteins, vegetables and fruit in-between your meals.

Terrific post, I am viewing back again on a regular basis to search for improvements.
Robert – it was great to see you again at Scott’s bday lunch. Our discussion regarding diet really got me thinking. I am a total carb and sugar addict. I was looking at the book you recommended and was wondering if you knew anything about the writer’s other books including The Mafettone Method and The Big Book of Training and Racing. I think I could greatly improve my racing results by lowering my percentage body fat and the stress I put on my system.
See you soon, Karl

Yes Karl, Dr. Maffetone’s other books are great. I generally suggest “In Fitness And In Health” first as an introduction. It touches on everything a little.
I’ve been following Dr. Ciprian’s eating right diet and I feel great! His comment about farming lobbyists and their marketing materials apparently is a common practice. Corporate marketing materials not only affect the govt but also the mainstream media. Fox News’ John Stossel interviewed “food expert” Jude Capper and she claimed grain-fed beef is just as healthy as grass-fed beef.

I googled Capper and found that one of her studies was funded by Monsanto.
Even worse, Stossel referenced a document (press release) by Elanco as scientific evidence that it’s a myth that grass-fed beef is superior to grain-fed beef. The document contained no peer-reviewed articles and Elanco manufactures the chemicals, antibiotics, and hormones that are used to contaminate the nation’s meat products.
Below are educational websites that discuss the benefits of grass-fed beef:

Good research Sherita,
Yes, grass fed beef is much healthier. It’s a no brainer. Cattle are meant to eat grass. When they do they are much healthier. There will be a higher amount of nutrients and good fats available for us in grass fed beef. There are more and more stores that are now making grass fed beef available for cheaper prices like “Trader Joe’s”
It amazes me how these companies use research as rhetoric and of course most people are not going to go and find out the facts for them selves.
Thank you
